Bolivia
In Bolivia, SORMAS was introduced in 2024 as part of efforts to modernize the country’s digital public health surveillance and outbreak response capabilities. The implementation was coordinated by the Ministry of Health of Bolivia, with support from the SORMAS Foundation and the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit). The project aimed to demonstrate the system’s added value in strengthening epidemiological surveillance and outbreak management in the country’s context.
The project started with a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop in La Paz in May 2024, attended by epidemiologists, statisticians, and IT personnel. The training prepared a core group of trainers who would then cascade knowledge through subsequent user training in selected regions. The region where the first training of users took place was Tarija, contributing to the roll-out of SORMAS in health facilities and laboratories.
