France

During the COVID-19 pandemic, France was among the European countries that adopted SORMAS to strengthen its pandemic response activities. In early 2020, following the rapid development of a COVID-19 module for SORMAS, France implemented the platform to support digital case reporting, contact tracing, and real-time outbreak management across regional and local health authorities. SORMAS’s flexibility allowed it to be tailored to French public health needs and integrated into existing surveillance workflows to enhance data capture and coordination for pandemic response.

In regions such as Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, SORMAS data were used to analyze detailed COVID-19 transmission metrics by applying tools such as SORMAS-Stats, which leveraged contact tracing data to estimate epidemiological parameters and visualize transmission networks. This analytical capacity helped public health teams to better understand infection dynamics and inform targeted interventions.
