Luxembourg
Luxembourg began deploying SORMAS in 2023 under the leadership of the Direction de la Santé (DISA), building on lessons learnt during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the goal of transitioning from fragmented, manual reporting mechanisms towards an integrated digital system capable of managing a broad range of infectious diseases.
In 2025, Luxembourg launched the Public Health Rapid Epidemiological Surveillance Hub (PHRESH), a four-year European Commission co-funded project aimed at modernizing the nation’s surveillance capacity and further embedding SORMAS at the core of its disease monitoring architecture. PHRESH brings together national public health stakeholders, such as the Health Directorate, National Health Laboratory (LNS), Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), and veterinary and environmental agencies to expand the system’s scope, improve interoperability, and strengthen real-time data sharing for outbreak detection and response across sectors.
Key aims of PHRESH include expanding SORMAS use to manage all national notifiable diseases and adding interoperability with relevant platforms including NGSurvey and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control’s (ECDC) EpiPulse platform to support cross-border public health coordination. The initiative also prioritizes the development of user-friendly dashboards and One Health data integration to support proactive public health decision-making and community engagement.
