In 2022 SORMAS was introduced in Zanzibar as part of the Pan-African Network for Rapid Research, Response, Relief and Preparedness for Infectious Disease Epidemics (PANDORA-ID-NET) project.

After an initial review of the available open-source digital tools for disease surveillance and outbreak management, the PANDORA-ID-NET team selected SORMAS as the most suitable solution and deployed the system by the Ifakara Health Institute under the leadership of the Ministry of Health of Zanzibar and the Zanzibar Health Research Institute (ZAHRI).
