SORMAS User Training Conducted in The Gambia as Part of National Rollout

In the last week of July, SORMAS user training was conducted in The Gambia as part of the Phase II step-down training supporting the national rollout of the SORMAS platform.

The training marks an important milestone in the implementation process and prepares end users for the routine use of SORMAS as the country's digital platform for disease surveillance and outbreak management. A formal project handover is expected following the completion of the training activities.

The training was delivered through the continued collaboration of the Ministry of Health (The Gambia), ePareto (regional IT vendor), OceanNet (local IT vendor), GIZ, and the SORMAS Foundation.

During the training, participants gained practical experience using both the web and Android applications of SORMAS. The sessions focused on the platform's core surveillance modules, including Cases, Persons, Samples, Testing, Contacts, Reports, and Outbreaks, enabling users to confidently perform routine surveillance activities such as case investigation using the customized Case Investigation Forms, sample and test management, and contact tracing.

A dedicated troubleshooting component also equipped participants with the knowledge to identify and resolve common operational and system-related issues, supporting the effective day-to-day use of the platform.

The successful completion of the training represents another step towards strengthening digital disease surveillance and outbreak response capacities in The Gambia through the national implementation of SORMAS.
